Participants learned evidence-based strategies for vaccine communication, explored research supporting structured training, and developed a continuity-clinic teaching plan that integrates skills practice, observation, and feedback. The webinar provided tools to help equip residents with the confidence and competence they need to foster trust and improve vaccination rates.

There is significant variability across the country in how to engage with and support families on breastfeeding and infant care in the setting of substance use history. This webinar, comprised of providers, researchers, and a patient advocate with lived experience, aimed to illuminate the current protocols for infant feeding in the setting of substance use and substance use disorder, disparities in breastfeeding support and infant monitoring in the newborn nursery, reducing bias and stigma in provider-patient communication and contingency planning for infant breastfeeding post-hospital discharge, and best practices in birthing parent/newborn substances screening and patient navigation for medication-assisted treatment and lactation support.

Access to healthy food is critical for both prevention and treatment of disease. As screening for food insecurity becomes standard of care in clinical settings, there is a growing interest in providing direct access to food within the clinical space. However, most clinical spaces were not designed for food storage and distribution. Experts from the Washington DC Capital Area Food Bank joined us for this virtual webinar and shared information on how to identify and evaluate whether food pharmacy programs make sense for you and, if so, how to develop partnerships and run effective programs in collaboration with community food partners.

The Food is Medicine Institute’s 2nd Annual Food is Medicine Advocacy Day was held in Washington, DC on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Attendees had an opportunity to speak with policymakers on Capitol Hill about the power of Food is Medicine to transform health, improve the way the nation prevents and treats diet-related diseases, and drive health equity across the country.
This webinar helped set the stage for currently available resources, including the HHS Food is Medicine Toolkit, which highlights existing CME around best practices for training and education, federal and state resources, and funding opportunities. The webinar also shared information about how to get involved with FiM advocacy initiatives, including how Advocacy Day attendees could meet with government stakeholders.
For those who were not able to join Advocacy Day in person in Washington, DC, the webinar provided information about ways to advocate for FiM initiatives across the country with local representatives.
