Introduction
Welcome to the first annual Academic Pediatric Association advocacy campaign!
In line with the APA's mission to nurture the academic success and career development of child health professionals engaged in research, advocacy, improvement science and educational scholarship to enhance the health and well-being of all children, and the APA’s vision of a “A thriving academic pediatric community that ensures optimal health and well-being for all children, particularly those most vulnerable” is guided by its core values of academic excellence, collaboration, mentorship, inclusion, respect, health equity and partnerships with children, families and communities, the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee will be leading a yearly campaign to help APA members develop strategies and skills related to different types of advocacy so you can apply these strategies to your own work. Each year we will highlight a different advocacy-related skill.
The campaign will take place annually, from July to July, and include:
- 2 short articles or videos a month housed on this website
- a bimonthly email highlighting advocacy of APA members
- a forum to share ideas and thoughts
- 3 webinars over the year
2025-2026: Building Your Skills in Community Engagement
This year, the advocacy skills-building campaign will focus on sharing scholarly work with local community-based organizations (CBOs), community leaders, and people with lived experience.
Although the focus of this skills-building campaign is on patients and CBOs, the same principles to be covered can apply to a wide spectrum of partners.
While publishing and sharing work within academia is important, dissemination to communities, particularly communities with whom you partnered is essential to ensure impact of your work. By community, we mean any partners, and community does not need to be geographic. By scholarly work we mean research, QI projects, education projects, clinical innovations, or really anything you are working on to advance child health equity and thriving.
We hope throughout the course of this year, you will be able to learn and share new ideas and be able to connect with fellow APA members!
