Faculty development is critical to professional development across the academic career continuum in education, leadership/administration, advocacy/health policy, research, and communication/technology whether instituting a new initiative or sustaining an established program. Our SIG’s mission is to provide a professional home for pediatric medical educators interested in faculty development in any of these areas.
Current SIG Goals
- Provide an academic home for faculty across the career spectrum, including trainees, who are interested in faculty development
- Promote opportunities for collaboration in scholarly work
- Partner with other SIGs sharing common areas of interest
Annual Summary
The 2019 Faculty Development SIG session at PAS focused on the topic of creating a job description, marketing one’s role in faculty development, and demonstrating value added by faculty development programming. The faculty development co-chairs welcomed Dr. Geeta Singhal as a co-facilitator of this session, and invited Dr. Elaine Schulte and Dr. Jennifer O’Toole to share their “elevator speeches” as examples for the group. We also thanked Dr. Natalie Burman for her leadership of the Faculty Development SIG as co-chair for the past several years, and announced our new SIG co-chair, Dr. Deborah Rana.
