Academic Pediatrics
Academic Pediatrics, the official journal of the APA, is a peer-reviewed publication that provides leadership in pediatric education, research, patient care, and advocacy. Content areas include pediatric education, emergency medicine, injury, abuse, behavioral pediatrics, holistic medicine, child health services, health policy, and the environment. Members receive print and online access to the journal. Faculty members can volunteer to review manuscripts and serve on the Editorial Board.
Awards
APA annually honors its members who contribute to the field of academic pediatrics through excellence in medical education, patient care, and delivery, research, or policy and advocacy.
Leadership
Board of Directors
Faculty can apply for a position on the APA’s Board of Directors to provide strategic direction to the organization and shape the field of academic pediatrics.
Committees
Faculty can join and apply one of APA’s numerous committees. All committees provide thought leadership to the Board of Directors and advance the goals of the Association.
Special Interest Group Mentors
Faculty who have experience leading a SIG can volunteer as a SIG mentor to provide direction and guidance to SIG Chairs. SIG Chair Mentors help the Chairs facilitate discussion among its members throughout the year and plan the annual educational session at PAS.
Mentorship
APA mentorship programs facilitate national relationships and are a great way to give back to young aspiring pediatric academicians. Sign up to provide career advice and direction to trainees or junior faculty at APA’s Speed Mentoring event or through APA’s Community.
Networking
Faculty members can connect with colleagues across the country via the APA Connect App or APA’s Community.
APA’s Community
APA’s Community boasts more than 40 Special Interest Group (SIG) and 10 Region discussion forums enabling leaders to exchange information about the latest academic and clinical trends. Members can share resources and collaborate on these dynamic and interactive forums.
Connect App
Members get access to the APA Connect mobile app. The app connects you to your colleagues and keeps you up-to-date on association news.
Professional Development
National Meetings
Faculty get discounts to attend APA’s annual national meetings including the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) Meeting and the Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Meeting. Members can also submit an abstract and present their research at the meetings and sign up to review meeting content proposals.
Regional Meetings
APA’s 10 regions host annual meetings. Each meeting features a call for abstracts and workshops, giving trainees the opportunities to present their research and gather the feedback they need to advance their research. APA membership includes Region membership.
Research Networks
The APA is home to three practice-based research networks. Faculty can serve on the executive leadership committees and conduct research through the networks by applying for grants to be administered by the APA.
