Jill Fussell, MD

Jill Fussell, MD is a Professor in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) within the Department of Pediatrics (DOP) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). She has been the Director of the UAMS DBP fellowship program since 2007 and was named UAMS DOP Vice Chair of Fellowship Education in July 2023. Dr. Fussell is Principal Investigator on federal training grants including Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and the DBP Training Program through the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. She has served on the Executive Committee of the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties (CoPS), including a term as Chair, and has therefore also had impact on fellowship training nationally. CoPS is engaged in making decisions when consensus is needed across subspecialty training programs and provides bidirectional communication between pediatric subspecialties and national educational organizations. She was the CoPS lead in coordinating with leadership in Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) and the ACGME to develop Workgroups, per pediatric subspecialty, to advance evaluation processes to Milestones 2.0. She also partnered with leaders within APPD and other pediatric organizations in the Fellowship Recruitment Action Team to develop national guidance for fellowship recruitment and collaborate on relevant scholarly projects. Dr. Fussell has been an active member the SPIN (Subspecialty Pediatrics Investigator Network), a national pediatric education research network. She has also been involved in Pediatrics 2025: The AMSPDC Workforce Initiative as co-lead of Domain 2, Workforce Data/Needs and Access.
