Aisha Barber

Aisha Barber, M.D., M.Ed., is the Director of the Pediatric Residency Program (2020-present) and former Associate Program Director (2011-2017) at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. She is an Attending Physician in the Division of Hospital Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics at Children’s National and George Washington University.

Dr. Barber earned a B.A. at Rutgers University and M.D. at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School prior to completing pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She participated in the Academic Pediatrics Association’s Educational Scholars Program, the Children’s National/ George Washington University Master Teacher Leadership Development Program, and earned a master’s in education at George Washington University School of Education and Human Development.

Dr. Barber has led initiatives in simulation, assessment, resident well-being, escalation of care, workforce diversity, and equity in graduate medical education. She enjoys mentoring throughout the educational continuum and a team-based approach to curriculum design, goal setting, outcomes tracking, and mission-aligned budget management. Dr. Barber has been instrumental in efforts to build an inclusive training environment, advance the pathway to careers in academic pediatrics, and consider equity on a systems level leading to national recognition.

Dr. Barber serves in local and national administrative roles including on the Board of Directors for the Association of Pediatric Program Directors and on the Pediatrics Review and Recognition Committee for the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education. In these roles she hopes to improve the lives of children by supporting career development and community for training program leaders and effectiveness and innovation in training programs.

Dr. Barber draws on her family’s current and historical experiences with healthcare to inform her approach and drive her passion for excellence in training the healthcare workforce who advances child health.
