On behalf of the Department of Pediatrics at UF Health in Gainesville, FL CareerPhysician, the nation’s premier leader in academic child health executive search and leadership development, invites applications and nominations for a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the next Division Chief of Pediatric Nephrology. This presents a rare opportunity to not only provide transformative leadership to an established, mission-driven clinical division but also to collaborate with a progressive and innovative leadership team to expand the reputation and stature of the division and faculty. The selected leader will be charged with creating a strategy to account for the expansion of high-quality clinical services throughout north Florida, while simultaneously enhancing division training, research, and scholarship initiatives. 

Opportunities and Highlights:

  • The division has a reputation for outstanding clinical care, including a nationally ranked kidney transplant program. Home to two physician-faculty, the department’s vision supports a division of 6 faculty including the Division Chief to meet the demand of patient and families in North Central Florida, Georgia and Alabama.
  • The primary objectives for the incoming Chief are three: 1) Evaluate the efficiency within the division pertinent to clinical care and develop a strategy for innovative models of care. 2) Recruit talented physicians and APP faculty to further the clinical reach in Ocala and Tallahassee, where UF Health has presence and patient loyalty. 3) Develop a vision for research and education for fellows and faculty, leveraging UF’s adult division and commitment to innovation.
  • The selected leader will play a pivotal role in collaborating with departmental leadership and adult divisions to develop clinical research and academic programs, while also fostering an environment of mentorship to grow careers of faculty and staff.
  • The division is home to an ACGME fellowship program, offering four fellowship slots. The program successfully filled all spots in 2024 and 2025 creating a pipeline of talent for future faculty appointments.
  • The division benefits from outstanding administrative support and superb reporting tools to equip the Chief with critical data necessary to assess efficiency, leakage, performance, etc., so that effective strategies can be developed and necessary resources advocated for to advance care for kids as well as faculty performance and satisfaction.
  • Gainesville is a prototypical charming college town, with a reasonable cost of living. The University of Florida is the primary employer and provides exceptional research and educational resources for collaboration. The University has invested heavily in artificial intelligence and has immense resources in this area. The University also provides exceptional access to arts and athletic events.
  • The selected Chief should possess an interest and ability to develop strong, collaborative culture and support faculty in their growth and development. Additionally, strong skills in clinical operations and innovative models for care and experience in creating cultivating scholarly production advancing the national reputation of the division.

Its core artificial intelligence resources include: HiPerGator Supercomputer: UF hosts the fourth-generation HiPerGator AI supercomputer, the fastest AI supercomputer in academia globally. It features hundreds of NVIDIA Blackwell (B200) GPUs and is extensively used for both grant-funded research and student projects. NaviGator Toolkit & Chat: A secured, locally deployed generative AI environment. It grants UF faculty, students, and staff access to over 40 different Large Language Models (LLMs) with full privacy compliance for sensitive datasets. Academic Programs & Certificates: UF offers over 200 AI-designated courses across all 16 colleges.
