Civic Engagement – A Message from the APA Public Policy and Advocacy Committee
As members of the Academic Pediatric Association, we are united by a commitment to improving the health and well-being of children and families. One important way to support that mission is by participating in our democratic process. The Public Policy and Advocacy Committee encourages all eligible members to make a plan to vote in the upcoming midterm elections. Whether you choose to vote early, by mail, or on Election Day, take time to verify your voter registration, confirm polling locations or ballot deadlines, and learn about the candidates and issues on your ballot from trusted, nonpartisan sources. Consider setting a reminder, discussing voting plans with colleagues and family members, and helping trainees and peers access reliable election information. If you are attending on service or in clinic during election day, consider providing protected time for your trainees to vote. Civic engagement is a meaningful way to ensure that the voices of pediatricians, child health advocates, and the families we serve are represented. Every vote matters, and informed participation strengthens our communities and our collective impact on child health.
