Lindsay Johnston

Dr. Lindsay C. Johnston is a Professor of Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine. She spends her clinical time as an attending neonatologist at the level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. She serves as the Director of Fellowship Education for the Department of Pediatrics, the Chair-Elect of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) Fellowship Executive Committee, and the Director of the Annual Northeast/ Mid-Atlantic Regional Bootcamp for new NPM fellows.

Dr. Johnston has a master’s degree in medical education and has focused her academic efforts on simulation-based medical education, with specialized interest in procedural skills training and curriculum development (specifically in the development of flipped classroom and simulation-based educational materials for training teams in Neonatology and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) management). She has had the pleasure of collaborating with educators across the globe, having participated in the leadership of the International Pediatric Simulation Society, the Organization of Neonatology Training Program Directors, the APA simulation interest group, the simulation workgroup of the Educational Committee of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization’s ELSOed Taskforce, and the executive committee of the National Neonatology Curriculum Committee. She has published extensively (manuscripts, books, and online educational resources) in the areas of simulation-based procedural training and assessment, use of simulation-based methodologies to train ECMO teams, curriculum development for neonatology fellowship programs, and strategies to improve success and safety in neonatal airway management.

Dr. Johnston serves as a mentor for numerous resident and fellows, as well as faculty, running a fellows’ core curriculum for all fellows in the Department of Pediatrics at Yale. Additionally, she has fostered a fellowship community across pediatric subspecialties, supporting scholarship within medical education and local program innovation and improvement.
