APEX is recruiting for participants, faculty, and steering committee members.
Are you a pediatrician interested in expanding your teaching skills and competence in evidence-based educational strategies? Do you want to take your career to the next level and inspire your residents and students with more meaningful learning opportunities? Would you like to meet and collaborate with like-minded educators? Well, we have the program for you.
Advancing Pediatric Educator eXcellence (APEX) is a one-year APA teaching program and will soon be recruiting for its next cohort scheduled to coincide with the Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Conference in 2027 (New Orleans).
APEX is a unique longitudinal national program, held during sequential PHM or Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) conferences. The program offers learning opportunities that are highly interactive and foster an ongoing exchange of ideas and best practices. Participants learn educational theory and specific skills they will apply at their home institution with direct observation of teaching by a local mentor. Under the guidance of expert faculty, they will also build a cohort of educators from institutions across the country and together develop educational workshops for national presentation. Previous cohorts have had over a dozen workshops accepted at national meetings, including PHM.
Ideal participants are pediatric hospitalists, general pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, pediatric surgical specialists, and advanced practice providers who seek to advance their clinical teaching skills through a process of reflection, exposure to new ideas, discussion, and practice. Though well suited to junior hospitalists, more senior hospitalists will find the program equally advantageous as they evolve their teaching skills for the next generation of learners.
“I think it is worth emphasizing how interactive the sessions are and how this program really brings like-minded folks together to share ideas.” – Stephen Pishko APEX Graduate
