SIG, scholars program, committee, etc
Describe a meaningful APA activity you have participated in and your experience of it.
Activity can be a conversation, a working session, a project, etc.
Describe a specific resource this activity provided for you and how you have used it.
Output can be an idea, relationship(s) or collaborator(s), tool, document, etc.
Tell how you used this resource in your clinical or academic work, and what it enabled you to do that would not have happened otherwise.
Application/how did you apply this?
Explain how the above APA activity and resource have affected your success.
A personal outcome could be being a better scholar or clinician, job satisfaction, etc.
Sometimes, such a story changes your understanding of what success is. If it happened this time, then describe how it did so.
Any new definitions of success you want to share.
Which of these three qualities (1) imagination, (2) engagement, (3) and alignment attracts you most to the APA activity you named above, and why?
(1) Imagination involves being able to see oneself as part of a broader community and to extrapolate from the current situation to potential future situations. This could involve identifying with the profession or interest area as a whole, envisioning future scenarios, and using this imagined context to guide present learning and participation. This projection and identification with a broader community can provide a sense of belonging that extends beyond the immediate engagement. (2) Engagement refers to the active participation in the activities and discussions of the community. It involves not only doing the tasks associated with the practice, but also interacting with other members, sharing ideas, asking questions, and learning from the experience of others. This hands-on involvement provides a direct and immediate sense of belonging. (3) Alignment involves aligning one’s own activities and beliefs with the broader norms, goals, and procedures of the community. This can entail conforming to rules and regulations, working towards common objectives, and generally ensuring that one’s own practice is in line with the agreed standards and expectations of the community. Alignment provides a sense of belonging by creating a coherence between individual actions and the collective identity.
