PAS Collaborative Workshop between APA Health Informatics SIG, Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) SIG and Serving the Underserved SIG
Workshop: Moving the Needle on Social Needs: From Screening to Data Management and Response
- With over 60 attendees, we presented a review of current social needs screening and regulatory requirements, followed by an outline of potential downstream regulatory impacts on patients and families. Screening considerations and modalities were reviewed with an ethical lens.
- Small groups focused on 3 topics: 1) Development of an ideal process for screening. 2) Best documentation strategies and metrics to capture the screening-to-referral pathway, 3) Best practice for referrals that are close-looped, HIPAA compliant and best integrated to the EHR.
- To close the session, the SDOH SIG highlighted 2 real world examples of existing social needs screening and referral programs that showcased the success, challenges and lessons learned from each institution.
- Resource from Workshop: Visualization Tools and Considerations
- This was the inaugural presentation for colleagues in SDOH SIG, and was a wonderful collaboration between the 3 groups. Find out more about the new SDOH SIG.
