Amy Levenson

Dr. Amy Levenson, MD, is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine. A nationally recognized leader in pediatric medical education, she has served as Director of the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Program since 2019, Director of Fellowship Training for the Department of Pediatrics since 2022, and was appointed Senior Vice Chair of Education in 2026. In these leadership roles, she provides strategic oversight and innovative advancement of educational programs across the Department.

Dr. Levenson serves nationally as an elected At-Large Member of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors Fellowship Program Directors Executive Committee. She previously served as Co-Chair of the Fellows’ Education Committee of the Pediatric Endocrine Society, where she led the development and publication of a national core curriculum for Pediatric Endocrine Fellows.

Since joining UNC in 2016, Dr. Levenson has been deeply engaged in undergraduate medical education. She teaches in the Patient-Centered Care Course and has served as a Clinical Phase Academic Coach with the School of Medicine’s Office of Academic Excellence, supporting medical students’ professional growth and academic success. She is also Co-Chair of Event Planning for the UNC Academy of Educators and serves on the School of Medicine Education Committee, contributing to curricular review and institutional educational strategy. Throughout her career, she has mentored numerous medical students, residents, and fellows, collaborating with trainees on peer-reviewed publications and national presentations.

Dr. Levenson earned her B.A. from Barnard College and her M.D. from the Drexel University College of Medicine. She completed her pediatrics residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, followed by a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. Prior to joining UNC, she served on the faculty at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard University, where she first developed her commitment to medical education and mentorship.

Through sustained leadership, national service, and a deep commitment to trainee development, Dr. Levenson has made significant contributions to pediatric education at both the institutional and national levels.
