Donna D’Alessandro, MD

Dr. Donna M. D’Alessandro received her Bachelor of Arts from Kalamazoo College and her Doctorate of Medicine with Distinction in Biomedical Research at Wayne State University School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital/Northwestern University School of Medicine and her General Academic Pediatrics Fellowship at Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. She is currently a general pediatrician and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa. Her scholarly interests are in medical informatics and medical education, where she is nationally recognized as an expert in the creation and evaluation of online educational resources. She has created 12 different digital libraries with an arc from utilizing the pre-Web, browseable Web, searchable Web, and now social media technologies, which serve more than 1.2 million users yearly. PediatricEducation.org, a case-based digital library, provides over 700 weekly cases, differential diagnoses, and curriculum maps and has served offer 4.5 million learners. Her numerous leadership roles for the Academic Pediatric Association include Communications Director, Region VI Co-chairman, Medical Informatics Special Interest Group Leader and in the Educational Scholars Program where she has been a leader since its inception. She was also a member of the Editorial Board of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Pedialink Learning Center and Pediatric Care Online.
