PHM Representative to the PAS Planning Committee Expand

We are writing on behalf of the Consortium for Pediatric Hospital Medicine (CPHM), and as your current PHM representatives to the PAS Planning Committee, to solicit applications to serve as one of next year’s representatives in the role of Incoming Representative starting May 2025. It is a fun experience, and a great opportunity to help shape PHM-relevant content for the PAS meeting, the nation’s premiere scholarly scientific conference focused on child health.

Current PHM Representatives to the PAS Planning Committee:

Ricardo Quinonez, MD

Jackie Walker, MD MHPE

Expectations of the role:

  • 3-year commitment starting after 2025 PAS Conference
  • Observation of procedural meetings during incoming rep year
  • Attend PAS in person each year of your term (travel/lodging/meeting registration supported by CPHM as junior and senior representative)
  • Participate in PAS Planning Committee Meetings (3-4 teleconferences annually), 1 virtual meeting in winter, and 1 in-person meeting at PAS
  • Solicit participation from PHM community in submitting content, volunteering opportunities, etc.
  • Review and select PHM-sponsored scholarly sessions in collaboration with other planning committee representatives
  • Organize the schedule for accepted content (scientific abstracts, workshops, invited science, etc.) relevant to PHM
  • Present updates to CPHM once annually
  • Liaise with the Consortium for Pediatric Hospital Medicine to select future representatives to the Planning Committee

Criteria:

We are seeking applicants with strong interpersonal and organizational skills and with demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Participation in past PAS meetings (e.g. reviewer, abstract presenter, workshop leader)
  • Reviewing and/or contributing to scholarly content
  • Participation in academic meeting planning
  • Development of academic programs (e.g. medical education, research, career development)

Applications should include:

  • A CV (with experience relevant to the above criteria highlighted)
  • A 300-word or less statement of interest that addresses their interest in the role and what they can bring to the committee
CoPS Representative Expand

The Consortium of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (CPHM) is searching for a qualified individual to represent pediatric hospital medicine on the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties (CoPS)

What CoPS is and responsibilities of the representative: The Mission of the CoPS organization is to bring together pediatric subspecialties to work towards a common goal to achieve improved child health.  Previous efforts have included workforce in the pediatric subspecialty environment, standardization of fellowship start dates, ACGME duty hours, MOC requirements with collaboration from the ABP. The Council currently has representatives from Allied Health organizations including the AAP, ABP, AMSPDC, APA, APPD, and APS as well as the AAP Section on Pediatric Trainees, and 19 Pediatric Subspecialties.

Specific responsibilities of the representative include:

  • Attendance at a fall meeting*
  • Second spring meeting by phone or aligned with another spring meeting (APPD or PAS) *
  • Occasional phone conferences on a variable schedule
  • Provide updates to CPHM once annually

 

Who should apply

Applicants should be practicing pediatric hospitalists who have:

  • At least 5 years of experience as a pediatric hospitalist
  • An interest in workforce issues related to fellowship and subspecialty status
  • Experience as a leader on a local, regional or national level

 

Application materials:

  • Brief (300 word) essay on why you wish to be involved and highlights of your past experience that support your ability to represent PHM on this council as related to the criteria above
  • Current CV with highlighted activities related to leadership and the field of PHM

 

Decision process:

  • Current members of CPHM will serve as the selection committee
  • Information will be blinded to prevent bias

 

*CPHM will facilitate travel/registration for meeting. Funds supplied may not cover the total cost.

APPD SPIN Representative Expand

The Consortium of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (CPHM) is searching for a qualified individual to represent pediatric hospital medicine on the APPD Subspecialty Pediatrics Investigator Network

The APPD Subspecialty Pediatrics Investigator Network (SPIN) is seeking one PHM representative

affiliated with an ACGME-accredited fellowship program to join an existing representative. APPD SPIN’s mission is to improve children’s health by enhancing pediatric subspecialty training through innovation and research that establish best practices in education and assessment. This is a great opportunity to collaborate with the broader national pediatric subspecialty graduate medical education network. APPD SPIN members are eligible to get authorship under the group name.

Current PHM Representative to APPD SPIN:

Michelle Lopez, MD MEd, MPH

We are seeking applicants with strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and with demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Affiliation or collaboration with PHM fellowship program
  • Reviewing or contributing to scholarly content
  • Participation in research collaborations

 

Expectations of the role

  • 4-year commitment
  • Liaise between APPD SPIN and the PHM subspecialty community specifically in regards to promoting survey completion and recruiting participation sites
  • Help review research proposals and surveys
  • Monthly one-hour calls (3rd Tuesday at noon ET in odd months, 3rd Thursday at 3 ET in even months)
  • Liaise with the Consortium for Pediatric Hospital Medicine to select future APPD SPIN PHM representatives

  • CV (with leadership, research and/or GME experiences highlighted)
