It is an exciting time for Pediatric Hospital Medicine with board certification and ACGME accreditation upon us. There are currently 61 fellowship programs, with 55 recruiting fellows this year. We have been through 2 cycles of ACGME accreditation so far, with 33 programs accredited. We anticipate by this time next year many more of our fellowship programs will have applied for accreditation.
The PHM SIG Co-Chairs worked diligently on the PHM annual meeting planning committee this year and successfully pivoted to a virtual meeting platform due to COVID-19. The virtual meeting occurred the week of July 20th. Registration is still available to access all of the content electronically at https://www.hospitalmedicine.org/event/phm20-virtual/. Erin Shaughnessy served as a co-chair for PHM20 Virtual and represented the APA well. Thank you, Dr. Shaughnessy! Specifically, the APA hosted robust live panel discussions on Racism in Medicine and Gender Equity in Medicine, a virtual SIG meeting and Speed Mentoring for fellows and junior faculty. Thank you to APA staff, especially Jessica Konrath and Jennifer Padilla, for your support of these activities.
We will be holding an election for our newest APA SIG Co-Chair in early Spring. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the APA and the PHM community. The APA SIG Co-chairs serve a 3-year term and participate in the planning of the PHM meeting all three years.
Also, on Tuesday August 4, 2020 we will be co-hosting a webinar with the APA Online Professional Development Committee on “Harnessing Technology to Present in the Era of Physical Distancing”. Please check the APA listserv emails for invitation and means to register.
Lastly, we are excited to announce that the APA will be sponsoring PHM 2021 along with SHM and the AAP August 5-8, 2021 in Minneapolis, MN.
