Dear APA Members,
I am excited to formally share with all of you that the APA’s Continuity Research Network (CORNET) has found its new Director, Dr. H. Shonna Yin. The network is also pleased to have Dr. Mona Sharifi step into the role of Associate Director (She previously represented APA Region I on CORNET’s Committee).
I would like to acknowledge members of the APA’s Board of Directors, Continuity SIG, and CORNET leadership who led the search for a Director back in February and spent quite a bit of time getting to know the candidates. As CORNET approaches its 20th anniversary, we are grateful for their thoughtful leadership and look forward to seeing where Shonna and Mona’s leadership takes the network.
Lastly, please join me in sending a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to Dr. Iman Sharif, who is stepping down as CORNET’s Director over the past six years. Under her leadership, CORNET submitted numerous grant proposals, initiated 10 studies (3 with federal grant funding), 11 publications including one in the Journal of Pediatrics describing the network’s mission, 21 conference presentations, and 1 workshop. Iman connected the network to important stakeholders and external organizations such as Reach Out and Read, Family Voices, and the Mount Sinai Parenting Center which led to the development of two new research networks, LitNet (Reach Out and Read) and KEYNET (Mount Sinai). She also introduced card studies to CORNET, allowing for quick gathering of large datasets, resulting in multiple publications and presentations. Thank you, Iman, for your dedication and leadership!
For those who are not familiar with CORNET, I encourage you to learn more about the network and consider joining, whether you decide to engage your clinic in a study, submit a study proposal, or become a committee member.
Thank you,
Teri Turner, MD, MPH, MEd
