SUMMARY:APA Webinar: State-level DEI Laws and Policies
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, November 2 at 12:00 pm EST for a webinar on State-Level DEI Laws and Policies presented by the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Director of State Advocacy\, Omonigho Ufomata. \nThe June 29\, 2023 Supreme Court decision against Harvard and the University of North Carolina effectively ended affirmative action and race-conscious admissions practices in higher education. This decision left many academic institutions with ambiguity around how best to support admission of a diverse student body under the new decision. \nOmonigho Ufomata\, the director of state advocacy at the American Academy of Pediatrics\, will share a legislative landscape of current state-level laws around diversity\, equity\, and inclusion efforts\, challenges to DEI efforts\, and advocacy opportunities. \nThis session will be the first in a series of APA-sponsored events to help our members continue to navigate recruitment and retention of a diverse pediatrics workforce. \nPlease register below:

SUMMARY:APA Medical Education Journal Club- October
DESCRIPTION:Presented by APA’s Medical Education Journal Club \nOctober 2nd at 1:00pm ET \n“How do we help our trainees learn at the edge of their comfort zone?” \nAutonomy is a concept in medical education important for the development of physicians with the goal of full autonomy and unsupervised practice by the end of graduate medical education (GME) training. SUMMARY:Speed Mentoring at PAS 2023
DESCRIPTION:About\nThis is a fun and face-paced networking session designed to bring early career faculty and fellows together with mid-career and senior faculty. \nMentees will be assigned to a track and will have 10 minutes for one-on-one mentoring with mentors assigned to their track. After completion of the speed mentoring activity\, the entire small group (mentors and mentees) in each track will meet for a lively discussion of mentees’ short- and long-term goals over lunch. \nAdditional Information\nMentors are individuals who have been in an academic faculty position for 7-10 years or longer and/or have participated in speed mentoring as mentee for more than 5 years. \nMentees are individuals who are in fellowship or in their first 6-7 years of an academic faculty position. (Exceptions for New Century Scholars!) \nMentees should come to the session with questions prepared to make the most of the 10 minutes per mentor. Both Mentee and Mentor CVs will be shared via email prior to the event to help facilitate conversation\, but please be sure to bring a copy. \nRegistration Information\nRegistration for Speed Mentoring at PAS 2023 is closed. If you would like to be waitlisted for the event\, please email jessica@academicpeds.org with your CV and your requested role (mentor or mentee) by Monday\, April 24. Alternatively\, you could show up to the event with 6 copies of your CV\, 15-20 minutes early and check in at the registration desk. Being on the waitlist does not guarantee you a spot. We are looking forward to seeing you at PAS! \nSubmit Your Short Term Goals
