Part 1 \nPlease join us for an exciting virtual Journal Club.  We are fortunate to have renowned medical education researcher Dr. Janice Hanson lead this webinar in which she discusses her in-press qualitative study\, “Racial/ethnic disparities in clerkship grading: Perspectives of students and teachers\,” Academic Medicine\, November 2022 RIME Supplement (See attachment). This will be the 1st of a 2-part series led by Dr. Hanson. Part 2 will be in January 2023 \nDr. Hanson is a Professor of Medicine\, the Director of Education Scholarship Development and the Co-Director of the Medical Education Research Unit at Washington University School of Medicine. \n\nThis interactive journal club discussion will start with a short presentation of the methods section of a recently published RIME Research Paper\, Racial/ethnic disparities in clerkship grading: Perspectives of students and teachers. This study incorporates critical race theory as a conceptual framework to guide data collection and analysis. After the presentation of the methods in this study\, we’ll discuss conceptual frameworks in qualitative research\, beginning with these questions: \nWhat is the difference between a conceptual framework and a philosophical framework? \nHow does the researcher’s view of knowledge (epistemology) affect qualitative research? \nHow can a researcher find a conceptual framework that can guide a qualitative research study? \nHow does a conceptual framework influence what the researchers learn in a qualitative study? \nWhat do conceptual and philosophical frameworks have to do with reflexivity? \nWhat questions do you have about conceptual frameworks in qualitative research?

SUMMARY:Speed Mentoring at PAS
DESCRIPTION:This is a fun and face-paced networking session designed to bring early career faculty and fellows together with mid-career and senior faculty. \nMentees will be assigned to a track and will have 10 minutes for one-on-one mentoring with mentors assigned to their track. After completion of the speed mentoring activity\, the entire small group (mentors and mentees) in each track will meet for a lively discussion of mentees’ short- and long-term goals over lunch. \nAdditional Information\nMentors are individuals who have been in an academic faculty position for 8-10 years or longer. \nMentees are individuals who are in fellowship or in their first 6 years of an academic faculty position. (Exceptions for New Century Scholars!) \nMentees should come to the session with questions prepared to make the most of the 10 minutes per mentor. Both Mentee and Mentor CVs will be shared via email prior to the event to help facilitate conversation\, but please be sure to bring a copy. \nThe final number of mentees and mentors will be determined by registration.
