SUMMARY:Substance Use Disorder and the Newborn: Breastfeeding\, NOWS\, and Nursery Care in a Rapidly Changing Landscape
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the APA Newborn SIG \nThere is significant variability across the country in how to engage with and support families on breastfeeding and infant care in the setting of substance use history. This webinar comprised of providers\, researchers\, and a patient advocate with lived experience aims to illuminate the current protocols for infant feeding in the setting of substance use and substance use disorder\, disparities in breastfeeding support and infant monitoring in the newborn nursery\, reducing bias and stigma in provider-patient communication and contingency planning for infant breastfeeding post-hospital discharge\, and best practices in birthing parent/newborn substances screening and patient navigation for medication-assisted treatment and lactation support. \nPlease grab your favorite warm winter beverage and join us for an informative session with colleagues on the forefront of infant breastfeeding and family support in the setting of substance use and substance use disorder. \nClick here to Register

SUMMARY:Child Maltreatment in Children with Medical Complexity
DESCRIPTION:Jointly hosted by the Child Abuse SIG and the Complex Care SIG \nPlease join the APA Child Abuse SIG and APA Complex Care SIG on Tuesday\, February 9\, 2026 from 3-4PM EST for a webinar titled “When Complexity Clouds Concern: Navigating Medical Neglect and Medical Child Abuse in CMC” \n“Medical Neglect (MN) and Medical Child Abuse (MCA) concerns are more complicated when a child has a Complex Medical Condition (CMC). Providers can struggle to understand what MN and MCA are in this population and how best to respond to concerns. In this hour-long webinar\, Dr. Ross Cleveland (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Boston Children’s Hospital) will discuss what makes these cases so complicated\, ways to conceptualize MN and MCA in CMC\, and share potential strategies to resolution of concerns. There will be case-based and interactive discussion as well as time for Q&A. Discussion may be helpful to general and specialty pediatricians\, please share invitation with anyone who may be interested.” \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Addressing Disparities in Pediatric Physician Workforce Diversity: Insights\, Barriers\, and Pathway Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, October 16th\, from 12 – 1 PM ET for a FREE WEBINAR\nRegistration is required \nRegister Now \nThis presentation will focus on addressing the urgent need to increase racial and ethnic diversity within the pediatric physician workforce\, a critical issue given the growing diversity of the U.S. child population. Despite increasing numbers of URiM youth\, representation among pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists remains disproportionately low. The session will explore systemic and structural barriers that hinder URiM students’ progression into pediatrics\, including lack of early exposure\, limited mentorship\, and financial constraints. \nWe will highlight national trends from the NRMP Match and ABP subspecialty data\, the benefits of racially concordant care\, and the importance of identity-concordant mentorship in shaping specialty choice. The session will also present current national initiatives\, including the APPD Confronting Racism Taskforce\, and innovative tools such as the URiM Mentoring Map pathway initiative. Finally\, we will introduce a cross-sectional study to identify mentorship models and program features that most effectively support URiM pediatric trainees from early education through career selection. This session will be relevant for medical educators\, program directors\, faculty mentors\, EDI leaders\, researchers\, and trainees interested in advancing equity in the pediatric workforce. \n\nPresenters:\nTatiana Ndjatou\, MD\nAssistant Professor of Pediatrics\, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell \nBeth Wueste\, PhD\, MAEd\, LSSBB\nDirector\, Academic Assessment and Compliance\, UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing \nTyler K.
