Charting the future: A Discussion with the PHM Strategic Planning Committee I

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe potential training and credentialing processes that are being considered.
  2. Discuss the pros and cons of pathways under consideration.
  3. Describe the process of accreditation of sub-specialties by the American Board of Pediatrics.
  4. Access mechanisms for feedback and discussion for influence on a final decision.
  5. Analyze the impact of requiring a specific level of training on the future of PHM
  6. Differentiate the field of PHM from pediatric general pediatrics

At the time of the meeting a strategic planning process for evaluating needs of post residency training and certification for pediatric hospitalist will have been ongoing for 18 months. This session will be led by the co-chairs of that process. The co-chairs will discuss the process as well as give a detailed pro and con analysis of several potential training and credentialing pathways. The co-chairs will also discuss any current discussions with the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) and highlight ABP requirements for subspecialty recognition. The will be an audience response system (ARS). The ARSwill be used to obtain audience opinion and feedback. Social media (Twitter and Facebook) will be used during and in between sessions to stimulate audience participation and ongoing discussion.
