Region 2 had its second combined regional meeting with Region 3 at Weill Cornell Medical College on March 12, 2010. Approximately 80 APA members, non-members and trainees traveled to New York City. The Keynote address was delivered by Perri Klass, "A World Full of Stories: The Pediatrician as Listener, Story-Teller, and Advocate". The morning workshops included: "The Nuts and Bolts of Reviewing Abstracts" facilitated by, Karen Wilson and Benard Dreyer, "So You're Considering Doing Medical Education Research: A Practical Hands-On Overview by Boyd Richards and Dorene Balmer and "Coping with the Challenging Learner" by Linda Tewksbury, Rhonda Graves, Andrew Mutnick, and Steve Paik. APA Past President, Peter Szilagyi and incoming APA President Elect Benard Dreyer, joined us for the day and updated us on the APA strategic planning process as well as initiatives of the organization. The afternoon program consisted of original research presentations. Both Region 2 and 3 members heeded our call for abstracts and, submitted well over 50 abstracts and following a peer review process, 19 were chosen: 11 for poster presentations and 8 for platform presentations. Congratulations to everyone for great presentations and posters! Thanks as well to Dr. Sue Bostwick at Cornell for her help/support at the meeting.
Please remember to attend our Region 2 Breakfast in Vancouver on Monday May 3rd at 7am-which is really 10am for us in the East Coast! Please check your PAS program to confirm- we are scheduled to be in Room Oceanview 2 at the Pan Pacific Hotel. During our regional breakfast in Vancouver, we hope to discuss future elections for September 2010 for both Region Co-Chairs and Young Investigator Region 2 Chair starting May 2011.
