Precourses

Getting to Know the AHRQ Database
AHRQ is sponsoring a workshop for hospitalist researchers to introduce the use of the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) databases. This workshop will be held at the University of South Florida as a precourse to the Pediatric Hospital Medicine 2009 course in Tampa, Florida on July 23. Participants will receive information on the components and capabilities of the databases and will learn how to extract data for research purposes, working directly with HCUP data on a computer. Attendees will need to bring their own internet capable laptop - wireless service will be available onsite. Course registration will be $100, or $25 for trainees and USF faculty.

Pediatric Fundamentals of Critical Care Support
This course is being offered as a 2-day pre-course for the PHM 09 Meeting. The Society of Critical Care Medicine has worked hard to create both a hefty reference textbook and accompanying lectures and breakout sessions that are relevant to pediatric hospitalists and others. The course is still early in it's development, and feedback from the pediatric hospitalist community is important to improve the course further. Additionally, taking the course is a pre-requisite for hospitalists who wish to participate as faculty.
