Creating an Interprofessional Continuous Learning Environment Through Lean Daily Management

Summary:
Lean Daily Management (LDM) is an advanced process improvement (PI) strategy utilizing data-driven methodology to create a culture of quality improvement and patient safety. This workshop will teach the concepts and processes of LDM via an interactive format while discussing the operational and cultural issues regarding implementation. After a brief overview of lean concepts, facilitator-led small groups will participate in a series of activities that identify waste, construct real-time run-charts and Pareto diagrams, and apply the 5 whys to create action plans. Each group will build a visibility wall and present in a mock Gemba walk. The workshop will conclude with a large-group discussion exploring issues regarding implementation of PI initiatives and sharing real experiences of successful PI initiatives in academic and non-academic settings. Attendees will leave the workshop with an LDM curriculum toolkit and enhanced skills in lean PI. Prior knowledge is helpful but not required.
