Interest in and opportunities for participation in global health work are growing rapidly in number and scale and increasingly pediatric hospitalists are leading global child health efforts. This workshop will provide participants with a summary of existing best practice guidelines for ensuring safe, mutually beneficial, sustainable, ethically responsible, and culturally appropriate global child health experiences. Attendees will discuss critical elements of pre-travel preparation and will engage in an interactive case-based workshop to address multiple themes, including practicing within ones expertise; ensuring sustainable interventions; maintaining cultural humility; and, navigating bilateral exchange. This workshop will provide a foundation upon which participants may build or expand their own pre-travel preparation, and implement or improve pre-departure curriculum in their own institutions. Additional pre-departure considerations, tools, and essential resources will also be discussed. This workshop will be useful for those engaged in global health as individuals or for those developing global health programs.
