Objective 1:
1. Identify the key components of a preoperative evaluation for a pediatric patient, including history, physical examination, selected diagnostic and screening tests

Objective 2:
2. Provide initial medical management for surgical patients with common postoperative complications

Objective 3:
3. Reinforce perioperative principles to address surgical patients for hospitalists

Pediatric hospitalists frequently encounter children with surgical needs in their inpatient practice, however there is a lack of available evidence in pediatric perioperative medicine. This interactive workshop will outline unique medical considerations surrounding the perioperative time period and describe strategies for making perioperative medical care plans. The workshop will begin with an introduction to perioperative medicine followed by three small group sessions that will allow participants to engage in case scenarios of surgical patients, providing an opportunity to apply perioperative concepts to optimize patient outcomes. Facilitators will guide the group to achieve the learning objectives for the session and answer any questions. Participants will be given resources/handouts for the perioperative management of surgical patients to utilize in their own practice.
