The field of global health continues to grow, and increasingly hospitalists are leading global health efforts. The session will explore applying the unique strengths and skills of pediatric hospitalists to global health settings. Hospitalists are accustomed to working with partners, able to synthesize varying approaches to management, skilled in resource utilization, and may be able to dedicate time each year to sustain international projects. Hospitalists typically have skills in QI methodology, patient and family centered care, discharge planning, disease management in resource limited settings, teaching clinical skills to learners of varied levels of training, protocol development to ensure evidence-based care, and incorporation of technology in medical care. Interactive small group case discussion will be utilized to focus on translating hospitalist skills to global health challenges with a focus on solutions that engage partners, are appropriate to the setting, and are sustainable. Participants will receive training and resources useful in the further development of their own global health efforts.
