One and Two and Three and Breathe: Reviving Your Newborn Resuscitation Skills Through Simulation

Primary Leader:
Allison Markowsky

Lamia Soghier
Rita Fleming
Sonaly McClymont
Jessica Herstek

Objective 1:
1. Describe the growing and changing role of pediatric hospitalists in newborn care

Objective 2:
2. Demonstrate key steps required for successful neonatal resuscitation and delivery room management

Objective 3:
3. Perform all essential resuscitation skills and procedures (including umbilical line placement and airway management) through hands-on practical simulation scenarios

Are you in a new position where you care for newborns and attend deliveries? Do you want a refresher and hands-on practice for different newborn procedures and skills? Would you like to discuss different strategies and challenges to implementing simulation training at your community site? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this workshop is for you. As pediatric hospitalist programs continue to expand, particularly into the community hospital setting, we anticipate an increased need for pediatric hospitalists to gain and maintain competency in newborn care and resuscitation. Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to describe the expanding role of pediatric hospitalists in newborn care, demonstrate proficiency in procedural skills for neonatal resuscitation and delivery room management, and determine barriers and find solutions for implementation of in-situ simulation at your site.
