Implementing the Electronic Medical Record safely in pediatrics with adult centric information systems can be challenging. Pediatric hospitalists can play a crucial role in the implementation and optimization of electronic medical records in the pediatric inpatient setting. Leveraging technology to standardizing pediatric medication files, build evidence based ordersets, and optimize physician/nursing documentation is critical in reducing errors, adverse events and near misses and delivering safe, quality care to pediatric patients. This presentation will help participants understand how the appropriate and optimal implementation of the electronic pediatric medical record is critical to delivering safe care to the pediatric patient. Deliverables attendees will be able to take away from this session will include a project design overview, clinical decision support tools specific for pediatrics, patient safety guards and ideas on leveraging the electronic medical record to implement quality initiatives.
